79 Series Bonnet Protector & Bonnet Guard
Stone Protection for the 79 Series Ute
The 79 Series Landcruiser spends its life on gravel, mine roads and highway runs where the wide, flat bonnet cops every stone, bug and bit of debris the tyres ahead throw up. Each chip that gets through cracks the clear coat, exposes bare metal and starts the rust clock. A 79 Series bonnet protector — or bonnet guard, as it's often called — is a tinted acrylic shield that redirects airflow upward, deflecting stones and debris up and over the windscreen instead of into your paint. On a working 79 ute it's one of the cheapest forms of paint insurance you can fit.
Tinted Acrylic Built for the 79
Our 79 Series bonnet guards are moulded from tough, impact-modified acrylic with a dark tinted finish that hides bug splatter between washes and gives the front end a clean, aggressive look. The acrylic is UV-stabilised so it won't go cloudy, brittle or yellow in the Australian sun. Each protector is precision moulded to the exact bonnet contour of the 79 generation it suits, sitting flush with no gaps or vibration, and installs with supplied hardware and no drilling. The 2024 GDJ facelift is also offered in a matte-black finish for a fully blacked-out front end.
Fits HZJ, VDJ and GDJ 79 Utes
The 79 bonnet shape changed across production, so the right 79 Series bonnet protector is the era-specific one: 1999-2007 (HZJ79), 2007-2016 and 2016-2023 (VDJ79 V8), and 2024 onward (GDJ79 facelift). A 2024 facelift protector won't fit an earlier VDJ, so each listing confirms the exact year and engine code before you order. Many 79 owners fit a bonnet protector alongside tinted weather shields as a matched front-end package.
